Mission Statement & Purpose
The mission of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Chaplaincy is to serve public safety personnel, those who work or reside in public safety facilities, as well as all residents of Hamilton County. Our mission is to serve as a supportive group of qualified ministers and counselors, assisting in matters of personal, marriage, job, spiritual as needed, and to be available to assist during times of emergency.
PURPOSE
One of the primary purposes of the Sheriff’s Chaplaincy is to provide counsel to the jail staff and to the inmates and to assist the department in screening or qualifying those who wish to visit the inmates for religious services or visits to the inmates.
· We provide guidance and counsel in matters of spiritual, personal, family job, or other nature at the request of the personnel.
· Our Chaplains assist the officers in emergencies where a chaplain would be of benefit to the department personnel and/or the general public.
· We are available in situations where the possibility of injury to personnel is high, such as hostage/barricade situations, attempted suicides, riots, demonstrations, etc.
· Our Chaplains act as a resource person in matters where a specialist is required or needed.
· We also respond at the Sheriff’s request, to represent the department and/or Sheriff at public functions.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Chaplaincy is an Indiana 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit Corporation sponsored by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and overseen by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of 10 members plus the Hamilton County Sheriff who serves as an ex-officio member.

All volunteers who serve at the Hamilton County Jail, Community Corrections, or the Juvenile Detention Center must be trained once each calendar year. The trainings will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department at 18100 Cumberland Road in Noblesville. Please go to the door directly straight behind the three flagpoles. SENIOR CHAPLAIN
Our Senior Chaplain, Mark Fidler is a Member of our Board of Directors, and is responsible for all aspects of the Hamilton County Chaplaincy, including the Hamilton County Adult Detention Center, Community Corrections and Juvenile Detention. The Senior Chaplain Position is a full-time position.
Road Chaplains
Our Road (Or Law Enforcement) Chaplains work primarily with our Law Enforcement Officers on Patrol. They each have one or more days where they are “On-Call” to respond 24-Hours a day whenever a need may occur where an Officer needs a Chaplain on-scene. They make death notifications, serious illness notifications and a host of other duties both inside and outside the Sheriff’s Office, Jail, Juvenile Detention and Community Corrections.. Road Chaplains are Volunteer, part-time, unpaid positions.
Jail Chaplains
Our Jail Chaplains work inside the Hamilton County Adult and Juvenile Detention Centers and Community Corrections (Work Release). They help fulfill the jail inmate’s requests for Bibles and other religious material that an inmate may request. They also provide spiritual counseling and some do other spiritual duties, like Bible Studies and Sunday Church Services. Jail Chaplains are Volunteer, part-time, unpaid positions
Chaplaincy Administrator
Our Chaplaincy Office Administrator, Phyllis Caudill, is truly the heart of the Chaplaincy. She supports our Senior Chaplain in making sure all aspects of the Chaplaincy are organized and run smoothly, as well as love and support all of the Road and Jail Chaplains.
CHAPLAIN TOM BURTON JR. LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY
Held This Year on June 21, 2019
Each year, since it was founded by our founding Sr. Chaplain Tom Burton, the Jr. Law Enforcement Academy provides a fun and exciting time for children from pre-school through High School. Children, grandchildren and other family of Hamilton County Law Enforcement gather to give kids of all ages the opportunity to see what their parent(s) do on a day to day basis as Law Enforcement Officers, Officials and Staff of any Law Enforcement Department in Hamilton County.
